We can now turn to how this might look towards a mission statement.

Who are your customers? This may seem a bit obvious, but it can be quite involved at the same time. You are definitely your best customer. You deal with yourself fairly on a daily basis. No room for false advertising here since you carry around your own personal value proposition around your waist.


If you started to think about yourself as your own best customer, then you might start to treat yourself somewhat better. All of those shoddy food products you have been binging upon for years all of a sudden start to look like a raw deal. However, you do have secondary customers including your significant other, spouse, children, parents, friends and co-workers. These are the people that are immediately impacted by your primary customer. How you treat yourself, ultimately impacts them.

What are the company’s major products and services? This is really dependent upon which business you are initially looking at. We have started to look simply at the physical side, so let us stick with that for the time being. Looking at your existing major products and services, do you see them as being out of date? Rusty? Immobile? Unable to respond? Well, fortunately, you are taking stock of what products you have in order to restock. Your body provides a number of products and services naturally and sometimes inconveniently, but we are only prepared to deal with products and services we have some control over. Looking at the physical side, our muscles provide the necessary machinery to provide the services we require. Keeping the machinery in top working order would only seem to be a natural conclusion to ensure the services keep coming. You may be thinking that maintaining your garden is a necessary service. Although this service can be outsourced, you prefer keep this in-house as a core competency for the time being. A side benefit to keeping fit is to make sure your spouse does not consider outsourcing any other core competencies of the business.


If you intend to keep gardening until a ripe old age, then you will have to take care of yourself far better than what you are probably doing.

Cars: an unrequited love affair Most people love cars. So much of our persona can be wrapped up in the way we transport ourselves. Most males fondly remember their first vehicle.
