A Personal Mission Statement
How to get an MBA In Life
Customers
Leonardo da Vinci dealt with numerous customers including Kings and other patrons. His main customer always appeared to be himself. He possessed an insatiable curious approach to life with the development of an unrelenting quest for continuous learning. His art and science continuously overlapped as he sought new ways to bring his art to the public. This included new engineering skills, chemical composition of paint and forging technique for his bronzed sculptures.
Products or services
Once again his products and services were boundless. However, for all his painting skills, he did not complete many paintings. He started several, but perhaps his interest waned as he proceeded with other projects. His service to humanity was unmatched. His thoughts on science could have revolutionized the field then, but most of his works were not published until later.
Markets
When it comes to markets and competition, we are not really talking about trying to sell your paintings and sculptures to a waiting public. We are talking about what your nearest competitor might be that could potentially derail the achievement of your personal vision and mission (PVAM).
Businesses thrive on acronyms, so I see no problem in applying the same thought to our own personal situation.
We can determine what our own markets and competitors are. This really boils down to time. What is competing for our time? Children are constantly competing for parent’s time, and this is perfectly acceptable. If you have children, then you have already (perhaps unknowingly) drafted this into your own PVAM as being the best parent you can be. Why did you have children then?
Technology
What is your basic technology? For companies, we can see this could include manufacturing or service capability. But what could this mean for an individual? We can break this down into the mind and the body. Each has their own separate components that can be broken down even further, but using a systems approach, we can easily see that the whole far exceeds the sum of the component parts.
There are external pieces of technology that we can purchase in order to feed into the main two personal components of mind and body. Everything from books, personal computers to cross trainers.
Concern for survival, growth, and profitability
The body has its own criteria for survival and growth. You can see the involuntary reactions that the body possesses in order to maintain it. The mind might not immediately perceive the danger that the semi-tractor trailer poses when you lightly doze off and your car crosses over the line in the middle of the highway. Fortunately, the body takes control of this and delivers the necessary hormonal charges to shock the body awake to veer over to safety.
During non-stress times, the mind takes control of what it can. Overeating is something that the mind can control as you choose the fat laden chips over the organically grown carrots in the store. The body does what it can do deal with what comes it’s way. If your mind is fixed on growth, as in a formidable body size, then you are well on your way to achieving this somewhat laudable goal if you happen to be big on sumo.
Philosophy
What are your basic beliefs, values, aspirations, and philosophical priorities? Or is that one of the issues. Some might say that this is a problem, but that suggests that the issues are problems. Instead, all problems are merely unresolved opportunities. If all you can see are problems, then indeed you do have a series of unresolved opportunities.
Maybe you have never even considered the question of what your values might be, or whether they should be examined. I would not go so far as to suggest that the unexamined life is not worth living, but in the business world this would be seen as missing a tremendous opportunity.
Self-concept
How you see yourself one of the main issues do be addressed by your PVAM. The fact that you are even using this book is a sign that you wish to more closely examine this issue. At the conclusion, you may be satisfied with your own self-concept. However, this has to be a continual process. Every business conducts an assessment internally and externally to ensure that no new products or competitors have entered their environment. The same can be said for your personal Brand of Super ID Inc.
Concern for public image
As an individual, you must be responsive to social, community and environmental concerns.
